Friend

Pat at my wedding
Pat was my best man & we asked him to do a few tasks
Two of my favorite wedding memories were associated with these tasks
One was I asked him to dance with our pastor. He was so nervous. One of the only times I remember him being so
Two was I asked him to tip all the venders. Later in the evening he was shouting, ” I gotta pocket full of cash. Who am I tipping next!”

Family Matters

Pat is the reason our first born has a name. It’s quite possible he’d still be called “baby boy Mooseker” (22 years later) if it weren’t for Pat.

The baby came nearly 4 weeks early and we were ill-prepared in many ways. Pat came to the hospital and absolutely couldn’t stand it that 2 days after being born, the kid was still “baby boy Mooseker”. He closed the door to the room, scrounged around for a paper and pen, sat down on the end of the bed and said “Ok. This kid needs a name and I’m not leaving here until he has one. So. Get the book out, start reading off the options. Let’s get this done.” – and he did. (I think he may have been the one that demanded the nurse update the card on the bassinet immediately, too).

Love and miss you more than words can express, Pat.

Pat’s sense of fun

This man always made me laugh. Our friend, Amy, sent me this picture of Pat walking in on a group of us playing musical instruments. He just walked in, picked up an instrument and joined in.

Meeting Pat

When I first met Pat, he was on an all popcorn diet. Said it takes more energy to metabolize popcorn so it made him thinner. Gawd, he made me laugh. Miss you, my dear friend.

Commitment

The 12th Man label is not strong-enough to describe Pat. Labeling him The 12th, 13th, and 14th Man better fits his commitment. Back in our college days, we secured tickets to a pre-season game. A few hours prior to the game we realized Pat’s apartment door was jammed and would not open from the inside. We had 3 options. Call maintenance – Pat immediately eliminated that option because it could potentially cause us to be late. The last 2 choices were jump from Pat’s 2nd floor balcony, or break through the door. Pat said he did not want to risk the security deposit, so we looked for a soft-landing spot. The balcony seemed to get higher and higher as we looked down. The clock was ticking, and we had to make a quick decision. Sacrificing his deposit, Pat broke through the door and immediately walked to the car so we would not risk missing a minute of the PRE-SEASON game. Every time I see the old silver helmet I think of that afternoon. What a memory – what a guy.

Loved sports

Pat loved sports. This is a photo of Pat and I at my dad’s wedding. We were recently talking about it and he knew the exact ballgame that was on during it. I get that it was a big game but still.

Love Interruption

Before COVID struck, Patrick and I had talked about singing this song together. And whenever he played it on the jukebox, we sang this at the top of our lungs. I love you, Patrick.
